His tireless work towards ensuring social security and upliftment of the Malayalees in Kuwait combined with his contribution in his social responsibility by supporting the economically weaker sections in Kerala was what lead him to be selected the Garshom Pravasi Ratna Award. Mr. Sageer is the founder of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA) which is the largest social welfare organization among the Indian community in Kuwait. The personnel administrator of Equate Petrochemical Co., Mr. Sageer has been playing a very active part in the activities of the Indian community.


Garshom Pravasi Vanitha Award

Dr. Sunitha Krishnan’s work in protecting women and young girls from falling into the net of the sex mafia is what won her the Garshom Pravasi Vanitha Award. Dr. Sunitha who heads an organization called Prajwala has been in a constant effort to save the befallen women from prostitution. Apart from saving the women by joining hands with the law enforcement agencies, Prajwala also helps in rehabilitating these women by providing them opportunities in self employment by training them. Hailing from Palakkad, Dr. Sunitha has been able to rehabilitate more than 2500 women in a short span of time.


Garshom Yuva Pravasi Award

The winner of the Garshom Yuva Pravasi Award, Mr. V C Praveen has been involved in social service activities working for the welfare of the society in general, in being a part of programmes that help bringing together the Malayalee community and is a motivation for the youth. Mr. V C Praveen is a multifaceted personality, stamping his individual ability in the field of business and among the Malayalee community welfare activities. He is the Director of Sree Gokulam Group, the diversified business group which has interests in microfinance, film production, hospitality, education etc. He is the Global President of the World Malayalee Council. Originally hailing from Kannur.

Mr. S Ahmed’s active involvement in looking into the social security and welfare issues of those returning from abroad is what earned him the appreciation of the jury of the 8th Garshom Awards. He is the winner of the Garshom Pravasi Returnee Award. Mr. Ahmed has spent over 22 years in the Middle East. He founded the Kerala Gulf Returnees Association with the objective of supporting those who have returned from abroad without economic self sufficiency.

It was the excellence in his work area of being at the top management of a chain of supermarkets that caters to the Indian community that won Mr. T A Ramesh a special award from the jury of 8th Garshom Awards. Being the Country Manager of Gulfmart, Mr. Ramesh has been the leading force in spreading the reach of Gulfmart throughout Kuwait and this managerial excellence has been appreciated by the Indian community in Kuwait.

All Malaysia Malayalee Association is the winner of the Garshom Best Malayalee Association Award. AMMA is the umbrella under which all Malayalee associations in Malaysia come together. 15 Malayalee associations are affiliated to AMMA.

 

 

The former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Dr. Najma Heptulla given away the 8th Garshom Awards at Indian Community school, Salmiya, Kuwait on Friday 27 May 2011.
