1981ല്‍ ആറ് ഗള്‍ഫ് രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങള്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് സഹകരണ കൗണ്‍സില്‍ രൂപീകരിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കിയ ഗള്‍ഫ് യൂനിയന്‍ എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്ക് ചുവടുമാറുന്നതിന്റെ മുന്നോടിയായി പൗരന്മാരുടെ അഭിപ്രായം തേടും. മേഖലയില്‍ രൂപപ്പെട്ട രാഷ്ട്രീയ, സാമ്പത്തിക, സുരക്ഷ വിഷയങ്ങളും ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള നീക്കത്തിന് വേഗംകൂട്ടും.
സാമ്പത്തിക, കസ്റ്റംസ് സഹകരണം, നാണയ ഏകീകരണം, ഊര്‍ജ്ജ, അടിസ്ഥാന സൗകര്യങ്ങളുടെ പങ്കുവെക്കല്‍, ഗള്‍ഫ് റയില്‍വെ, വൈദ്യുതി ലൈന്‍ എന്നിവ സഹകരണത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി നിലവില്‍ വരുമെന്നാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്. ഔദ്യോഗിക അംഗകാരവും പൗരന്മാരുടെ പിന്തുണയും പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചാണ് വ്യക്തികളില്‍ നിന്നും പ്രമുഖ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നും അഭിപ്രായം തേടുന്നത്.
