മുന് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി മഹാതീര് മുഹമ്മദ് പ്രതിഷേധത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നൽകി. പ്രതിഷേധത്തെ പോലീസ് തടഞ്ഞത് നേരിയ സംഘർഷാവസ്ഥയ്ക്ക് കാരണമായി. പ്രതിഷേധിക്കുകയെന്നത് ജനങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശമാണെന്നും ഇതില് ഭയപ്പെട്ട സര്ക്കാര് പ്രതിഷേധത്തെ തടയാന് ശ്രമിക്കുകയാണെന്നും മഹാതീര് ആരോപിച്ചു.
