തട്ടിപ്പുകാർ അയക്കുന്ന ഇ-മെയിലിൽ ‘Confirmation is required’ അഥവാ ‘Action is required’ എന്ന ഒരു ലിങ്കോ അറ്റാച്ച്മെന്റോ ഉണ്ടാകും. ഇതിൽ ക്ലിക്ക് ചെയ്യുന്നത് വഴി ഒരു സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ കംപ്യൂറിലേക്കു ഡൗൺലോഡ് ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയും ഇതുവഴി കംപ്യുട്ടറിലുള്ള മറ്റു ഫയലുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുവാൻ കഴിയാതെ വരികയും ചെയ്യും .
തട്ടിപ്പെന്ന് തോന്നുന്ന മെയിലുകൾ ലഭിച്ചാൽ അവ ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au എന്ന മെയിൽ ഐഡിയിലേക്ക് ഫോർവേഡ് ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് അധികൃതർ അറിയിച്ചു.
