കപ്പഡോഷ്യ: തുര്ക്കിയില് ഭൂമിക്കടിയില് ആയിരം വര്ഷത്തോളം പഴക്കമുള്ള നഗരം കണ്ടെത്തി. കപ്പഡോഷ്യയിലെ ഗ്രാമവാസികളിലൊരാള് വീടുനിര്മ്മാണത്തിനിടെ ഭൂമി കുഴിക്കുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് തുരങ്കത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചേര്ന്നത്. ഇരുപതിനായിരത്തോളം ആളുകളെങ്കിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന പതിനെട്ട് നിലകളുള്ള കെട്ടിടവും അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളുമാണ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.
മുമ്പും ഇവിടെ ഭൂമിക്കടിയില് നഗരങ്ങള് കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ‘ഡെരിന്കുയു’ എന്ന ഈ നഗരത്തിന്റെ അത്ര വലുപ്പമുള്ളവ കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. ഇപ്പോഴും ഇതിന്റെ പകുതി ഭാഗത്ത് മാത്രമേ പ്രവേശിക്കാനായിട്ടുള്ളു. അതേസമയം കപ്പഡോഷ്യയിലെ ഈ നഗരം ഇതിനോടകം പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട വിനോദസഞ്ചാരകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി മാറിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു. പൗരാണികമായ സംസ്കാരം ഇവിടെ നിലനിന്നിരുന്നുവെന്നതിന്റെ സൂചനകളായി ഒട്ടേറെ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളും ഇവിടെ നേരത്തെതന്നെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
എഡി 7801180 കാലയളവില് ബൈസാന്റിന്റെ കാലത്ത് നിര്മ്മിച്ച അത്ഭുതനഗരമാണിത്. അടുക്കളകളും തോട്ടങ്ങളും കിണറുകളും ശവകുടീരങ്ങളും പള്ളികളുമൊക്കെയായി ആധുനിക നഗരജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ചിഹ്നങ്ങളെല്ലാം ഇവിടെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഏകദേശം 600 ഓളം വാതിലുകള് ഈ നഗരത്തിലേക്ക് കടക്കാനും പുറത്തേക്ക് പോകാനുമായി നിര്മ്മിച്ചിരുന്നു. ശത്രക്കളുടെ വരവിനെ എതിര്ക്കാന് കല്ലുകള് പതിച്ച വാതിലുകള് ഇവിടെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നു.
